From the supplier: The Calcasieu Parish School District in Lake Charles, LA,,is boosting productivity by turning to a scanning system to automate such routine functions as attendance and grade reporting. The district, which encompasses 57 schools, maintains a wide-area network which connects an HP QS16SX microcomputer at each site to one another as well as the district office. It purchased four HEI/360 scanning devices from Scanning Systems of Victoria, MN. The optical mark readers were utilized to speed such routine tasks as attendance and grade reporting and class scheduling. After an eighteen-month trial, all 58 sites were using the scanning system to good effect, freeing up the time of both teachers and administrators. Currently, a user group is studying additional ways that the scanning systems can be utilized, such as discipline tracking and educational guidance.
